We collect the following categories of personal information:
Account information: When you sign up for Gigtea, we collect your name, email address, and any profile details you choose to provide.
Waitlist and contact information: If you join our waitlist or contact us via our website, we collect your email address.
Music and taste preferences: With your consent, we connect to your Spotify account via the Spotify Web API to access your top artists, top tracks, and associated genre data across different time ranges (recent, medium-term, and long-term). We use this to build your taste profile and personalise event recommendations. We do not access your full listening history, private playlists, or playback activity. You can disconnect Spotify at any time in your account settings.
Facebook event data: With your consent, we may access public event data from Facebook (such as event names, dates, venues, and descriptions) via the Meta Platform API to include relevant events in our recommendations. We do not access your private Facebook profile information, friend lists, or post history.
Location data: With your permission, we collect your device location to recommend nearby events and venues. You can disable location access in your device settings at any time.
In-app activity: We collect information about how you interact with the app, including events you save, dismiss, share, or attend, venues you visit, and preferences you express. This data powers our personalisation engine.
Social connections: If you choose to connect with friends on Gigtea, we collect your in-app connections and may access your device contacts (with your permission) to help you find friends. We do not store your full contact list — we use it only for matching purposes.
Device and technical data: We automatically collect device type, operating system, app version, IP address, and general usage analytics to maintain and improve the service.

This section applies specifically to data obtained through Meta Platform APIs (Facebook, Instagram) and is provided in accordance with Meta's Platform Terms and Developer Policies.
When you connect your Facebook account or we access Facebook event data:
Data retention: Meta Platform Data is retained only as long as necessary to provide the service. If you delete your account or revoke Facebook permissions, we delete all associated Meta data within 30 days.
Data deletion requests: You can request deletion of all data obtained from Meta at any time by contacting us at hello@gigtea.com.au or by using the account deletion feature in the app. We will process your request within 30 days.

Your data is stored on secure servers located in Australia where possible. Where data is processed overseas (for example, by cloud infrastructure providers), we ensure those providers comply with the Australian Privacy Principles or equivalent standards.
We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, access controls, and regular security reviews. However, no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Our email service provider, MailerLite, processes subscriber data on servers located in the European Union and United States in compliance with GDPR and applicable data protection standards.
